Call for Papers
The MMGPS'04 workshop aims to identify recent
technological advances and open research challenges regarding metadata
management in novel applications requiring peer-to-peer information
management in a distributed or Grid setting. In P2P systems, a number
of autonomous servers (peers) share their computing resources, data
and services. Grid systems also aim to allow sharing of computing
resources, data and services among dynamic collections of servers.
Thus, Grid and P2P systems face similar challenges, and there have
been several workshops during 2003/4 aiming to bring together researchers
from both communities in order to share and develop common solutions.
In particular, we organised the first workshop
on Metadata Management in Grid and P2P Systems (MMGPS) on 16th December
2003 - see http://www.ics.forth.gr/isl/ist_workshop/.
Following on from that workshop, we are pleased to announce this
second workshop.
This MMGPS'04 workshop is being organised
by the SeLeNe (Self e-Learning Networks) project. SeLeNe is part
of the "Information and Knowledge Grids" action line of
EU FP5 and is conducting a feasibility study into using semantic
web technology for syndicating knowledge-intensive resources, such
as Learning Objects, in Grid or P2P environments. Please see the
project web site at www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/selene/
for a description of SeLeNe and its transferable outcomes, publications,
and other related resources. SeLeNe has developed techniques enabling
the discovery, sharing and collaborative creation of learning resources,
facilitating a syndicated and personalised access to such resources.
The MMGPS'04 workshop is of interest to
researchers from the Grid, P2P and e-learning communities as well
as other application domains requiring Grid and/or peer-to-peer
support. Topics of interest include, but are not limitted to:
* provision of Grid/Web services
* metadata requirements in Grid/P2P systems
* use of metadata in new application domains
* metadata management middleware
* Grid/Web service descriptions and ontologies
* service and information discovery
* service composition and orchestration
* semantic interoperability in Grid/P2P systems
* query/update processing in Grid/P2P systems
* replication and consistency of information
* access control
* trust and contract management
* personalisation techniques and services
* automatic/semi-automatic generation of metadata
We welcome submissions of both research
papers and applications papers. Research papers should describe
original contributions in metadata management in Grid and/or P2P
environments. Applications papers should describe practice and experience
in metadata management in the context of real Grid or P2P systems
- these may be prototype systems or deployed applications. Papers
should be formated using Springer LNCS style and be 10 - 12 pages
long (for formatting instructions please see www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html,
Information for LNCS Authors, Proceedings and Other Multi-author
volumes).
Important dates are:
New Submission Date: 5th November 2004

Notification of acceptance: 22th November 2004
Camera-ready copies due: 29nd November 2004
Papers should be sent by email, in
PDF form, to Vassilis Christophides (christop@ics.forth.gr)
and Alex Poulovassilis (ap@dcs.bbk.ac.uk). |
