Abstract: |
It is widely recognized that
a prerequisite for the commercial penetration of the ad hoc networking
technologies is the integration with existing wired/wireless infrastructure-based
networks to provide an easy and transparent access to the Internet
and its services. This talk describes the main technical challenges
that must be addressed to enable the interconnection between IPv4-based
MANETs and the Internet and briefly presents the various solutions
proposed in the research community. Then, I will describe a lightweight architecture employing basic layer-2 functionalities to build heterogeneous ad hoc networks interconnected to the fixed Internet. Finally, we discuss the experiences and lessons learnt from a prototype implementation of this architecture. |
Bio: |
Raffaele Bruno received the
Laurea degree in Telecommunication Engineering and the PhD in
Computer Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1999
and 2003 respectively. From 2003 is a Researcher for the IIT Institute
of the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa. His research interests are in the area of wireless and mobile networks with emphasis on MAC protocols for wireless networks, architectures for wireless access to the Internet, TCP modelling in Wireless LANs, routing and resource allocation in Mesh Networks. |
