Astronomical Data Analysis Conference
Held regularly since 2001, the Astronomical Data Analysis (ADA) conference series is focused on algorithms, signal and data processing. The 5th ADA conference is co-organized by the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA/Saclay), the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH, the Departments of Physics and Computer Science of the University of Crete and it is sponsored by the European Space Agency. It will take place in Heraklion of Crete in Greece, on 7-9 May 2008. This year the conference covers a range of innovative themes, including curvelet transforms, and clustering in cosmology, while at the same time remaining closely linked to front-line open problems and issues in astrophysics and cosmology. The Herschel and Planck Space Telescopes will be launched by the European Space Agency in early 2009, and so the 5th ADA conference will focus in particular on:
Recent developments in harmonic analysis, especially the "compressed sensing" theory may have major impact on the way we collect, transfer and analyze the data. The ADA-V conference will have among its invited speakers Emmanuel Candes (Caltech, USA) a world expert in this field in order to diffuse these new ideas in the astronomical community.
